Why United Way?

United Way is a worldwide network in 45 countries and territories, including nearly 1,300 local organizations in the U.S. It advances the common good, creating opportunities for a better life for all, by focusing on the three key building blocks of education, income and health. The United Way movement creates long-lasting community change by addressing the underlying causes of problems that prevent progress in these areas. LIVE UNITED is a call to action for everyone to become a part of the change.

It’s at the root of the Stealth. The vehicle is a clean car that harnesses both electrical and diesel power. However, what sets the Stealth apart from other green vehicles is the Stealth’s focus on physical fitness. The Stealth has pedals built into the front of the vehicle. The pedals are optional, allowing the driver to receive a cardio-vascular workout whenever they choose. The power generated by the pedals runs through an alternator that recharges the battery pack—allowing the vehicle to travel further distances between charges.

United Way’s focus on health has been the result of financial support to programs across the country promoting the physical wellbeing of children, adults and seniors. Some of these programs include, NFL Play 60, Kids Get Fit, HOPSports and a variety of fitness programs with the YMCA.

Perdue and his team hope to use the Stealth and its 5000-mile journey as an opportunity to highlight America’s need for physical fitness. Throughout the journey, Perdue will be collecting nickels and dimes from bystanders at each stop and then Passing it Forward to the next United Way agency on his route. Perdue hopes his journey will encourage Americans to donate to their local United Way agency. But more than anything, Perdue hopes his journey will encourage Americans to pursue good health and physical fitness.
